Entrance examination.
Foreign students will be required to attend a preparatory course which involves study in the Russian language and in relevant academic subjects. Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite for admission to state-allocated study places for which tuition fees are not charged.
Fee-paying foreign students will normally be required only to pass the language test in order to be qualified for admission.
Foreign students not receiving a Russian Federation state scholarship are required to pay tuition fees which will exceed USD 300 per month. Since tuition fees will vary from one institution to the other and from one discipline to the other, interested students are advised to contact the Department for Specialists' Training for Foreign Countries at the respective institution for details.
Limitations.
The number of free of charge students is limited by the number of state scholarships (quota places) which are awarded each year by the Russian Federation to foreign students. Within the context of the licence awarded, higher education institutions are themselves responsible for setting the number of places available to foreign, by definition, fee-paying students. You must fax or e-mail the following papers:
A copy of your document of education with the list of subjects taken and grades received (translated into Russian or English),
A copy of your national passport,
A questionnaire properly filled (the form can be sent to you by the educational institution officers),
The educational institution arranging for you an official invitation for you so you could get the student visa. The approximate time necessary to issue the official invitation varies from 3 to 5 weeks, and its cost is about 50 USD.
You can come to Russia for studies in an educational establishment only under the invitation issued by this same educational establishment. You cannot be admitted for studies under the invitation issued by another educational institution.
